Titania sol and production thereof

Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a titania sol resistant to gelling even under severe condition, having excellent dispersion stability and exhibiting pH of neutral region, by deflocculating hydrous titanium oxide with a monobasic acid (salt) and removing anion from the resultant acidic titania sol. CONSTITUTION: A hydrous titanium oxide is deflocculated with a monobasic acid or its salt (e.g. hydrochloric acid) to obtain an acidic titania soln. The sol is added e.g. with a wet anion-exchange resin under agitation to remove anion in the sol and the ion exchange resin is removed to obtain a titania sol which is a neutral aqueous dispersion of fine of fine titania particles having pH of 6W8.
