Information recording method for magneto-optical medium

Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the vertical magnetic field to be applied across a film surface by inverting the magnetization of a part upon which a laser beam is projected by means of the opposite magnetic field of the film and the magnetic field applied in the vertical direction by heating the film surface with the laser beam while a magnetic field is applied in the direction parallel to the film surface. CONSTITUTION: When a horizontal magnetic field HX and vertical magnetic field HY are applied across a magneto-optical medium, the total energy E of magnetic anisotropy becomes as expressed by Formula I (the K⊥, MS, and θ of the formula respectively represent vertical magnetic anisotropy energy, magnetic moment, and the angle between the magnetic moment and vertical direction). The minimum balancing point at which energy is stabilized under such state becomes as expressed by Formula II and, when Formula I is solved in terms of θ by using the condition of Formula III, the coercive force suddenly drops when a magnetic field which is lower in intensity than HK (an anisotropic magnetic field expressed by 2K⊥/MS) is applied in the horizontal direction. Namely, when a magnetic field is applied in the direction parallel with the film surface of a magneto-optical recording medium in the course of writing on the medium, the bias magnetic field to be applied in the vertical direction can be set at a lower level.
